The Five Reiki Principles
The Five Reiki Principles
These principles are also known as the Five Reiki Precepts or the Five Reiki Ideals. They are guiding principles that reflect the spiritual philosophy associated with Reiki practice. The principles are traditionally attributed to Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki. Here they are:
1. **Just for today, I will not be angry.**
- This principle encourages letting go of anger, resentment, and hostility. It emphasises the importance of cultivating a mindset of peace and understanding.
2. **Just for today, I will not worry.**
- Worrying about the future or dwelling on the past can contribute to stress and anxiety. This principle encourages living in the present moment and trusting in the unfolding of life.
3. **Just for today, I will be grateful.**
- Gratitude is a powerful force for positive change. This principle emphasizes the importance of appreciating the blessings and lessons of each day.
4. **Just for today, I will do my work honestly.**
- This principle encourages integrity and honesty in all aspects of life. It emphasises the importance of ethical behaviour and sincerity in one's actions.
5. **Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.**
- Kindness and compassion are central to this principle. It encourages treating all beings with love, empathy, and respect, fostering a sense of interconnectedness with the world.
These principles are often recited as part of a daily meditation or affirmation practice by Reiki practitioners. They serve as a guide for personal and spiritual development, promoting a positive and mindful approach to life. While the wording may vary slightly depending on the source or translation, the essence of these principles remains consistent within the Reiki community.
