Finding your voice - or "singing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order"

“I want to sing like the birds sing, not worrying about who hears or what they think."
Rumi

Finding your voice

Learning to sing can for some be a terrifying prospect, mixed up with childhood fears and thoughts that we 'aren't good enough' or are tone deaf and 'can't sing'. Finding, and using our authentic voice is about allowing ourselves to be vulnerable - to 'show up' and to play creatively.

Reconnecting with our voice is not about hitting the right notes (in the right order) and being technically perfect, but singing with and from the heart. WE CAN ALL SING!

“Our sound is our essence. It is pure, it is perfect, it is unique. We are each an individual sound and, at the same time, a part of the universal harmony. Many of us have become disconnected from our voices and do not know their limitless possibilities. All is not lost; we can reconnect to our voice and pure vocal behavior most of us had as small children. Our beautiful, resonant voice has only been sleeping, waiting to be gently nudged awake.”

Heather Lyle - Vocal Yoga

Finding our true, individual voice is about making mistakes, connecting, joy and doing it with your heart and soul. That's where you will find your voice.
It's about "..playing all the right notes—but not necessarily in the right order" as the great Eric Morecambe said.

What are your experiences of using and finding your voice? We'd love to know more about how you found your voice, or are there things that are still stopping you from feeling the freedom of singing?
